In May 2019, Metro City experienced inflation of 0.49 percent due to an increase in the index from 140.52 in April 2019 to 141.21 in May 2019. All expenditure groups contributed to the formation of inflation, namely the foodstuffs group by 0.1568 percent ; the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.1313 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0,0558 percent; clothing group by 0.0526 percent; health group by 0.0510 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.0286 percent and the education, recreation and sports group by 0.0108 percent.
Some of the commodities that predominantly contribute to inflation include inter-city transportation, spinach, red chili, garlic, green chili, hospital fares, oranges, chicken eggs, live chicken and carrots.
Metro City inflation was ranked 58th, out of 82 cities observed in price developments, 81 CPI cities experienced inflation and 1 city experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tual at 2.91 percent and the lowest inflation in Kediri by 0.05 percent. Whereas deflation only occurred in Merauke at 0.49 percent.
Metro City, in May 2019 based on the calculation of inflation in the calendar year (Point to Point) was 1.27 percent and inflation year on year (YoY) was 2.53 percent.
